About

Hi, I’m Sarah Amijo (read: Ameeyo). I didn’t always know I loved art. In fact, I studied business accounting and worked as an office accountant before realizing my true passion was in the creative world. I decided to take a leap, pursued graduate studies in art, and focused on children’s book illustration and stationery design.
In 2014, I started my illustration studio, Big Bear and Bird, where my characters Ubu Bear and Pip the Bird came to life. Over the years, my artwork has grown into gifts and merchandise. I also create commercial illustrations—ranging from branding projects for companies to collaborations and licensed products. To encourage and spread positivity, I’ve published two books: Journal of Gratitude (2017) and Journal of Joy (2023). In 2025, I launched my first online watercolor class to share my painting style with others who love to create.
For me, art is a way of sending warmth, love, and encouragement. My hope is that when you see my work, it brings a little lightness and joy to your day. Most often, you’ll find me painting in a sunlit room, coffee close by, with my corgi Mika curled at my feet—and sometimes my little toddler joining in.
Welcome to my little corner of the world. I look forward to creating more stories with you through my art.
